Welwitschia mirabilis is one of the most remarkable plants on the planet, found exclusively in the Namib Desert of Namibia and Angola. Sometimes called a "living fossil," this ancient plant can live up to 2,000 years, enduring the extreme heat and dryness of the desert.

What makes Welwitschia unique is its bizarre appearance: it consists of only two long, strap-shaped leaves that continue to grow throughout its life. These leaves become tattered and twisted over time due to harsh desert winds.

The plant absorbs moisture mainly from fog that rolls in from the Atlantic Ocean, making it a master of water conservation. Welwitschia has separate male and female plants, with cones similar to those found on conifer trees.

Welwitschia is a symbol of survival and resilience. Botanists and scientists have long been fascinated by its biology, with Charles Darwin even marveling at its strange form.
